The Victorian Day of Vesak 2010

Join in Victorian Buddhist Community’s commemoration of the 2600th year of Buddha’s enlightenment!

2,600 years ago the Bodhisattva Siddhartha sat in meditation under the Bodhi tree in India to win enlightenment for himself and all beings. To commemorate the 2600th year of Buddha’s enlightenment 2,600 Victorian Buddhists from many traditions and communities will join together in meditation as part of the Victorian Day of Vesak 2010.

Even though Buddhism is a relatively recent arrival in Australia, as each year passes Buddha Dhamma touches deeply the hearts and minds of more and more Australians. May Victorian Buddhist Temples strengthen these new frontiers of Buddhism in Australia by participating in this commemoration of the 2600th year of Buddha’s enlightenment.

The Victorian Day of Vesak 2010 will be held on Saturday the 22nd of May 2010 in the heart of the City of Melbourne at the Melbourne Town Hall. The program for the commemoration includes one hour of meditation and chanting in the three Buddhist traditions and a musical theatre performance of the birth and early life of the Buddha.

Together with your organisation’s support, the Organising Committee aims to provide a unique Buddhist event of local, national and international significance offering vast blessings and benefit for Victoria, Australia and all beings.
